Message from the Director

Truly a museum for the twenty-first century, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal aims to be above all visionary and open, focused on convincing an ever growing public of the importance of contemporary art in asserting and developing our culture, and of the invaluable role it plays in our society. To achieve this, the MAC wants to reaffirm its leadership by engaging in multiple ways with all the many players in Montréal’s artistic and cultural community. The Musée intends to play a part in extending the reach of Québec, Canadian and international contemporary art. In addition, we plan to diversify our revenue sources, continue our educational mission, make the transition to the digital age and further build our collection, the symbol of our identity and our excellence.

The MAC will keep up its collaborative efforts, particularly with a view to its major renewal project that will get under way in 2021. The physical transformation of the building it currently occupies is certainly the museum’s main challenge in the coming years. The MAC is Canada’s largest and most important museum dedicated exclusively to contemporary art. This major restructuring will enable it to properly carry out its role by making the transition to a museological and architectural setting worthy of the twenty-first century.

To successfully meet all these challenges, the museum is counting on the commitment of all its employees, members of its Board of Trustees and committees, members of the Musée Foundation and all its partners.

John Zeppetelli, MAC Director and Chief Curator
