Visitor Policy

Please observe the following guidelines when you visit the museum. 

Artworks

All our galleries are equipped with video surveillance cameras and an electronic motion-detection system. Please do not touch the artworks; just contemplate them quietly. 

Cameras

Photography for personal use is allowed in some exhibition galleries. However, no video equipment, selfie sticks, flash or tripods may be used.

The museum reserves the right to change this rule, depending on the specific circumstances.

Museum’s photos or videos

While visiting the MAC, promotional or archival filming might be underway. This means you may recognisably appear in one of these photos or videos. By visiting the MAC and joining our events, you accept to be photographed and filmed, and you authorize the Musée to use these promotional or archival images in printed, digital, video or electronic format.

Bags

Visitors may take a medium-size handbag or small front pack into the galleries. We thank you for avoiding bringing items larger than 36 x 56 x 23 cm (14 x 22 x 9 inches), as our cloakroom is currently closed.

We urge you to limit your personal effects to a minimum, as you’ll have to carry them with you. We reserve the right to refuse any item deemed inappropriate.

Please note that we are not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen items.

Cell phones

Please allow other visitors to contemplate the works in silence. We ask you to step out of the exhibition galleries if you must use your phone.

Families

We urge you to get in touch with us to find out the “how” and “when” regarding group visits. Visit our Plan your visit section for the most recent recommendations by Public Health authorities. It is possible to enter exhibition spaces with a stroller and a small diaper bag. Frontal baby carriers are accepted. Thank you for bringing as few personal items as possible with you on your visit as the cloakroom is currently closed.

People with reduced mobility

The Musée meets the standards set by Kéroul, the Québec organization that provides information for people with restricted physical ability and lobbies on their behalf.

The museum building (including exhibition galleries, elevators and washrooms) is accessible and adapted to the needs of people in wheelchairs. As well, a number of wheelchairs are available (free of charge) for use by visitors.

Parking for people with reduced mobility

Parking spaces for people with reduced mobility are available at Place Ville Marie.

Municipal parking spaces with adapted parking meters, as well as reserved parking spaces, are also available in several locations in the borough of Ville-Marie. For more information, visit the Stationnement de Montréal website.

Food and beverages

Food and beverages are not permitted in the museum. You can buy food and beverage in the foodcourt Cathcart, situated on the same floor.

Wi-Fi network

A Wi-Fi network is available in the Musée restaurant (1st floor), the Media Centre (2nd floor) and the Donors’ Lounge (lower level).

Sketching

Visitors are allowed to make pencil sketches in all the museum’s galleries. The use of ballpoint pens, fountain pens, ink and watercolour is not permitted. Easels and stools are also not allowed. Please do not impede the movement of visitors through the galleries.

In case of loss or theft, contact the museum’s security personnel at 514 847-6263.

First aid

If you are feeling unwell, please ask a security guard for assistance.
