Runa Islam has gained an international reputation for her ongoing investigations into experimental and expanded cinematic techniques, working with both 16 mm and 35 mm film. Since the late 1990s, the British artist has explored the history and aesthetics of cinema, as well as the themes of time and duration, illusion and the nature of seeing. This monograph, composed of two original essays and numerous colour plates, documents the artist’s film installations from the past 7 years, including Magical Consciousness (2010), conceived especially for the occasion.

Nominated for the 2008 Turner Prize, Runa Islam has exhibited works and screened films at, notably, UCLA Hammer Museum, MIT List Visual Arts Center and the Hirschhorn Museum. Published with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
