From May 5 to July 10, 2011, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal will feature unique works by 10 Québec artists who have transformed everyday objects into works of art. These works have been specially produced for Vente de garage, a documentary series created and directed by Bernar Hébert and Renée Claude Riendeau. Produced by Claire Obscura, the series Vente de garage will be broadcast by ARTV on Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. starting May 10.
Artists don’t balk at using everyday objects, consumer objects and even fashion and design objects — far from it! Here are a few examples of objects that have been eloquently transformed and even reappropriated or repurposed by BGL, Claudie Gagnon, Stéphane Gilot, Pascal Grandmaison, Sylvie Laliberté, Serge Murphy, Alain Paiement, Alana Riley, Ève K. Tremblay and Chih-Chien Wang.
Each of these experiences involves a journey, an artistic approach, and we were privileged to follow the creative processes of these 10 artists as we shot a documentary devoted to each of them. All are worth checking out.
The works on display are clear proof of the power and vitality of the current Quebec art scene. In Vente de Garage, broadcast on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ARTV, the object, manipulated and reimagined through sculpture or installation or paired with an exploration of it through imagery, becomes a reflection of the times in which we live!
