The first real overview of over 20 years of work, this exhibition on the paintings of Montreal artist Sylvie Bouchard will highlight the principal developments in her work, showing, beyond Bouchard’s remarkable technical mastery, her ability to create pictorial spaces that are both dense and luminous, combining influences from the worlds of architecture, landscape art and, more generally, the history of painting.
The show will also emphasize the key role Bouchard has played in the renewal of figurative painting in Québec. In all, the show will contain about 50 works that are representative of the main body of her work to date, including recent paintings on view for the first time.
