Artwork description
One of Dara Birnbaum’s best known video works, Technology Transformation: Wonder Woman appropriates images from the American television series Wonder Woman. A brief, looped excerpt begins with an explosion that signals Diana Prince’s metamorphosis from ordinary woman to super hero Wonder Woman. The repetition and reordering of video fragments out of their original narrative context allows the artist to deconstruct and subvert the mediated message to reveal, among other things, the mechanisms that control the representation of women within the culture of Hollywood.
