The Collage and Moving Images project provided over 200 students from 10 Montréal-area elementary schools from disadvantaged areas with an opportunity to learn about video creation as an artform. To begin the project, art mediators from the MAC met with the students in their classrooms and introduced them to a variety of video artworks and an animated film from the Museum’s collection.
Through this introduction the students observed how different juxtapositions, layering and image-succession techniques contribute to generating new meaning and inventing new narratives. Under the guidance of their art teacher or homeroom teacher, they were supported to put into practice the various collage techniques they had learned into the creation of their own video artwork.
Centre Turbine collaborated on the project by providing teacher training as well as educational and technological support throughout the creation process.
Organized by the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, this project is part of the artistic and cultural practices initiatives of A Montréal School for All, a program of the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur.
